United Nations General Assembly Resolution 65/69 recognizes the valuable contribution of women in preventing and reducing armed violence and conflict. It further underscores the importance of their participation in promoting disarmament, non‑proliferation and arms control, and calls for ensuring their equitable representation in all decision‑making processes related to these areas.

In line with this commitment to gender equality, UNLIREC has developed the initiative Women, Forces of Change, which, through symposiums, publications and other content, brings together and highlights women from diverse sectors and backgrounds, all of them playing a pivotal role in building more peaceful and secure societies.

Through this initiative, UNLIREC seeks to make women’s contributions visible, recognize their leadership and inspire new generations committed to peace and disarmament.

Symposiums

Since 2017, UNLIREC has brought together more than 50 women leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, all of whom dedicate their work to advancing the global peace and security agenda.

Publications

The four editions of the publication “Women, Forces of Change” showcase the stories, experiences and reflections of women from across the region who, in different ways, contribute to advancing the implementation of the global peace and security agenda, as well as the pillars set out in the Secretary‑General’s Disarmament Agenda.
