The three programmatic areas of focus at UN-LiREC are the result of the disarmament-related needs as expressed by UN Member States in the Latin American and Caribbean region, the vision and workplans of both the Office for Disarmament Affairs (ODA) and the Regional Disarmament Branch (RDB), as well as relevant international disarmament instruments and documents. Both in-house experts and external consultants make up the specialized Project Teams responsible for implementing all project-related activities.   


Strengthen the capacity of State institutions in tackling a range of public security challenges and threats related to illicit firearms trafficking and armed violence through capacity-building and technical assistance.
